Amanda Brugel

Many people unfamiliar with the word frequently think that it's a separate island somewhere west of Montreal However, in reality this part of West Island is home to everything from Lachine west to the Lachine city. Lachine west. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel became a young woman in Courtice Ontario just outside Oshawa. In her early years, she wanted to be the next big thing in her career, but a sudden increase in her height made it difficult. In an article in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. When I reached the height of the size of my male friends and stopped dancing, I quit. Many former dancers turn into acting. In Brugel's situation, it was a suggestion from a high school drama teacher who encouraged her to go in that direction. The teacher was the one who suggested she audition as Anne in the school's annual production. After a few auditions, she ended up as the main character for Anne of Green Gables. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she studied Theatre and received a Bachelors of Fine Arts in the year 2000. In the 20+ years that followed, Brugel has landed roles in over 60 shows on the big and small screens drawing the most media attention after she was offered the character of Rita on the award-winning series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel, the only Canadian in the Season 1 actors of the series as well as appearing only on occasion, was the only Canadian.
